First Man is a tribute to people who have sacrificed their lives for the space-exploration programme.

First Man is an American Biography-Drama movie based on the life of Neil A. Armstrong.

Neil A. Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon on July 20, 1969. He was accompanied by Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. This movie was released in the year 2018 with Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong.

The total budget of the film was $70 million, and it earned $105 million. It was not a very big hit. The total runtime of the movie is 141 minutes.

The movie starts with a scene of Neil Armstrong flying X-15 rocket-powered spaceplane when it suddenly bounces off the atmosphere. Although he can control it and lands it safely somewhere in Mojave Desert, California.

He is grounded after this incident because his colleagues think all these recent mishaps are because of distraction. About his family, Neil has a 2 and a half year daughter, Karen, who is having a tumor in her brain.

Neil wants to save her desperately but is helpless. Eventually, she dies after a few time, and he collects a bracelet of her as a remembrance.

Grief-stricken, he applies for project Gemini and is accepted to group 2 of NASA Astronauts. There he makes a few friends who are civil test pilot named Elliot See and Ed White.

Now there is a series of mishappenings around him in which he loses some very close people to him. In 1967, Apollo I crew gets killed in a fire accident. All these mishappenings add to his misery.

In between all this, he is selected to command Apollo 11. As the final launch date nears, he is seen preoccupied and maintains a distance from his family.

Just before the launch, Janet knowing the risks involved in this mission asks Neil to confront his two young sons and tell them about the risk involved.

Tell them that maybe he will not make it back, because she can’t explain it to them when they ask,’ what happened to their father?’ This is one of my favorite part of the movie. You could easily feel the tension in the room.

The fear Janet is feeling, the answers that Neil cannot give to his sons. It’s very dramatic but terrific.

After this, there is the moon landing sequel which cannot be described adequately in words, at least by me. You have to watch it, to feel the intensity and this particular scene is critically acclaimed.

After successful landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong delivers the message to the Earth which is actually quite famous, that’s one small step for men, One giant leap for mankind’.

I got shivers when I watched this scene because I was so engrossed in the movie. Then finally Neil is seen dropping the bracelet of Karen in Little West Crater. This bracelet dropping is not a part of Hollywood trying to dramatize the movie. It is actually an educated theory.

This movie is fantastic, and I don’t know why it was not a commercial success—one of the most realistic space movies ever made. Ryan Gosling nailed his performance.

Even I loved Claire Foy(Janet’s) performance, because of that single room scene. It is perfect. I would rate this movie 9 out of 10 and recommend it to anyone who loves to see space travel movies.

As a matter of fact, it’s a biography, so everyone should watch it.
