We need to change how we define productivity

screen time

I was doing puja just before writing this, and I was constantly thinking of my screen time. My day was repeating in my mind in a loop.

Like, the first thing I did today when I woke up was look for my phone and search for a new phone. My phone got water-damaged during holi and since then every morning I wake up, I look for a specific -phone to buy (even when I know I don’t have the money for the one I like).

So, the one I am using rn is very slow, so after 5-10 minutes, I use it as a hotspot and move to my tab.

Then random scrolling and switching between youtube, chrome and whatsapp, half an hour passes away. Then I finally get my water bottle for lukewarm water and give another 15 minutes to random scrolling & switching apps.

Then I get up, freshen up and start doing some work, now on LAPTOP.

My work, if done properly is for about 4 hours max. Most days it is 1-2 hours. But, I don’t know what the fuck I do on my laptop all day long. If I think carefully, it is that random movie-scenes watching, scrolling LinkedIn, Substack and google search console that eats up my time.

At the end of the day, I feel exhausted with all this screen time, but in reality the productivity is way less than I assume it to be. For example, today I changed the LinkedIn headline and bio yet again, and it took away 2 hours atleast – I was making it perfect (I hope so)

I think I need to change how I define productivity at work. Sitting in front of laptop and doing actual work are two different things.
