Oldboy is the best mystery movie I have watched to date

Oldboy is a Korean action, drama, and mystery movie. It was released on 21 November 2003. The total running time of the film is 120 minutes. It had a $3 million budget, and it earned $15 million at the box office.

A person named Oh Dae-Su is locked in a prison for 15 years. He is provided with every facility in the prison, but he is not told, ‘Why is he imprisoned?‘. He tries to set free, he fails. When he tries to commit suicide, he is saved every single time. Then suddenly, one day, he is set free to take revenge for wasting his 15 years.

As it is a thriller, I won’t give any spoilers here. But, this is one of the best thriller and mystery movies you will ever watch in your life, I can bet on it. The story starts with suspense, and you will not feel a moment of boredom in the whole movie. When I first saw it, as I had read a few reviews, I was trying to guess the ending while watching, ‘Who could have done this to him and why?‘. I was nowhere close to the ‘Why?’.

The characters are very well developed, and the 2 lead characters -Dae-Su Oh and Woo-jin Lee, just nailed their performance. They couldn’t have done better than they did. Dae-Su Oh said in the movie:

Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone.

It has a profound meaning (both ways- in the movie and in real life).

If you plan to watch an action thriller any time soon, I would wholeheartedly recommend this masterpiece. I have rated this movie a perfect 10 in IMDB and wherever I could. Although I need to tell you one more thing, there are 2 versions of this film, by the same name, make sure you see the original one—the one released in the year 2003.
