What Actually Gets Better With Age?

Hmm… that’s a deep one.

I was thinking about it, and honestly, most things seem to fade with time – friendships, relationships, work… all of it.

People tend to become more self-centered as they grow older. They start viewing everything around them as something that should support their life.

And that leads to a kind of dependency for things they can’t fulfill on their own anymore!

I kept thinking about it, and one thing stood out to me.

Something that genuinely gets better with age for most of us – our ability to understand people, situations, and knowing when to move forward or when to pivot.

In Hindi, we call it “Tajurba” – life experience.

And this experience isn’t just about money or the big moments. It’s mostly about understanding people, situations, and society as a whole.

How it functions, how human nature shifts, and how different people live their lives. The differences in lifestyles, the choices they make.

When it comes to situations, you must have heard older family members say things like, “This happened to us, and this is what we did to overcome it.”

They have this sharp sense of judgment about what you’re going through – because they’ve lived that age already.

(The thing is I feel the internal conflict stays the same.

For them, for us, and probably for the generations to come. We all go through it – that is why it has repeated so many times.

Today, we call it mid-life crisis.)

That’s why it’s said – old people give the best advice. Because they truly understand people, society, and situations.

And that kind of understanding & clarity… it only comes with age.

It’s one of the few things that actually gets better as you grow older.
