Why sharing numbers is such a long process in India?

So, I have been matched with this girl on the hinge app.

Let’s call her Z for the moment.

So, as a start we have been chatting for a few hours.

And having been a daily consumer of YT shorts, I have come across these channels where they use these kinds of cheesy pick-up lines on girls.

Yeah, the majority of these channels are American and European.

So, the part I want to talk about is – majority of them boys ask for numbers at the end and majority of the time they get it.

Kind of normal, right?

But, it is completely different in India.

So, even if you have a decent chat with someone on any of the ‘Meet People’ apps, you cannot ask for numbers directly.

There is a process to it.

First, you move to Telegram – the identity remains anonymous – so the girl can share the username and change the username if anything goes… sideways!

Then, if everything goes well on Telegram, you move on to Instagram as the identity, username and profile posts are visible now.

Then finally after literally everything goes well, you move on to numbers and this complete cycle to moving to the phone number often takes weeks.

This might not be true for everyone, but this has been my experience as of now.

So, I was thinking …WHY?

Is it insecurity? Is it the fear the phone number will be spread?

Why sharing phone number is such a big deal? I cannot understand.

Maybe a women’s perspective on this helps me understand!
