Why You Should Watch Masaan(2015)?

Masaan is a 2015 Bollywood Drama movie directed by Neeraj Ghaywan.

It was released in India on 24 July 2015. The total runtime of the film is 109 minutes which is just perfect.

According to some sources, the movie’s budget was Rs 8 crores, and its total box office collection was only Rs 6 crores.

The movie is set in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and narrates two very different stories simultaneously.

Finally, in the end, both the stories converge and form one brilliant movie to watch.

The first story is about Devi Pathak, she is caught having sex with one of her students in a hotel room.

The rest of her story revolves around Devi and her father trying to sort things with police so that they don’t release her recorded video.

The other story is of a lower caste boy, Deepak Kumar falling in love with an upper-class girl, Shaalu.

The rest of his story shows the romance between them and an unexpected twist!

This is the debut film of Neeraj Ghaywan as director, and he absolutely nailed it.

I loved his direction, and maybe he showed us the best role of these actors. Actually, he picked the right actors for the specified role.

Every one of these actors is not so famous, but their acting skills are commendable.

Neeraj Ghaywan won 1 Filmfare award, 1 National Film Award, 1 Producers Guild Film Award & many others for,’ Best Debutant Director’.

The level of acting in ‘Masaan’ is brilliant. Every actor has put in his/her best efforts and the results we already know.

This is one of the Bollywood movies to watch if you want to see real acting.

The actors were praised for their work, Vicky Kaushal won ‘Best Debutant Male’ & ‘Most Promising Newcomer-Male’ in Filmfare Award & 22nd Screen Awards respectively.

Richa Chadda won ‘Editor Choice Performance Of The Year’ in Stardust Awards.

Sanjay Mishra & Shweta Tripathi won the ‘Best actor/actress in supporting role’ at Zee Cine Awards!

‘Masaan’ has a total of 3 songs.

I personally liked 2 of them, ‘Tu Kisi Rail Si’ & ‘Mann Kasturi’.

‘Tu Kisi Rail Si’ shows the budding love between Deepak & Shaalu and the video is even cuter.

The starting lines just stick with you, and you keep on repeating them once you hear it, ‘Tu Kisi rail si Gujarati hai, main kisi pool sa ……….thartharata hun’.

The other song ‘Mann Kasturi’ is the theme song, and the video shows the whole movie at a glance.

I haven’t written about any negative aspects of the movie, because there isn’t any!

At least I couldn’t find anything I could criticize about.

But the irony is- a brilliant film like ‘Masaan‘ couldn’t even earn up to its budget at the box office. Sad, but true.

I would rate this movie a perfect 10 and would recommend it to any cinephile out there!

Goodbye, meet you next time with another movie review!
