I just finished watching ‘The Amateur’ and it’s a 2025 movie. Officially it’s an thriller-action movie, but after watching it, it feels more of a drama-action with a hint of thriller in it.
The story is that a person is working in the decryption and analysis wing of the CIA and his wife is killed in a hostage situation in London, so he takes the responsibility to punish the people who are involved in… to himself.
The movie explains the character very well – you can see him doing sophisticated analysis (which suits the actor 100%), has this nerdy look, is fearful of using guns/violence etc. It is so apt, you will love it.
He behaves like an amateur in the field, and that has this slight tension to it – this person knows things but hasn’t done them in the field! So you as a viewer are always assuming ‘How would he do it?’
Officially, the IMDb rating is 6.5, but I think I would give it a 7 because I really enjoyed the complete duration of the movie.
