The Pianist is one of the best war movies one can watch

‘The Pianist’ was released in the year 2002. The genre of the movie is Biography, Drama, and Music. The director of the film is Roman Polanski. This movie is about a Polish Jewish musician, Wladyslaw Szpilman, whose life was transformed during Warsaw’s Nazi occupation.

This movie is based on the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a renowned pianist of his time. This movie captures the raw emotions of the brutality done by the Nazis on Jews. When you read about Warsaw, you come to know that around 30% of the Jewish population was forced to live only in 2.4% of the city area. I have not even started to talk about the living condition! It was pathetic, below what we can even imagine today. In addition to this, there was malnutrition, hunger, famines. In a particular scene in the movie,’ The whole family had to buy a single piece of caramel and divide it into 6 equal pieces’.

Despite all these situations, the movie shows the determination of one man to survive. He moves from one hiding place to another, suffers from jaundice, almost shrinks to half his original size. But, he does everything to stay. Although it can be seen, he gets a lot of help, but still, the support would be of no use if he had lost his will to survive.

This is one of the best war movies I have seen. The emotions, the acting, everything was perfect. My favorite scene is when Szpilman finally saw soviet soldiers roaming the streets. He comes near a family and hugs them in relief. But he was wearing a German coat because he was too cold. Seeing the German jacket, the lady starts shouting,’ German,’ ‘German.’ The Soviet soldiers start shooting at him, thinking he’s a German. At this point, I was praying,’ No, Please No, after all that suffering and survival, he doesn’t deserve to die like this.

Overall, a great movie. I would highly recommend watching it, although it may be disturbing to someone due to the atrocities shown in some parts of the film.
