For a long time, I thought everyone around me was an NPC (non-player character)
I saw my friends, my family, and even strangers as robots. I really believed they only existed to play a role in “my story”.
Thinking this made me feel superior.
It made me feel like I was the only person who was “living”
I used this feeling to give advice and act like I understood life better than anyone else. I have treated my life like a movie and everyone else as the supporting cast!
But I realize now that this is just a way to hide.
I called people “bots” because I was too lazy to try and understand their actual lives. It was easier to look down on them than to admit that my life is actually very ordinary.
I turned my small problems into huge tragedies to make myself feel special.
In reality, billions of people have dealt with the same things with more grace and less ego than I ever have.
My “epic struggles” are actually very common.
The truth is that there are 8 billion people who all feel like the main character.
In their stories, I am the one playing the background character.
I am the person they walk past and never think about again. I am not the most enlightened person in the room.
I am just the one who was the most deluded, till now I hope 🙂
