Axone shows us the discrimination faced by North-East Indians

Hello folks. So, I watched the movie ‘Axone‘ (pronounced as ‘Akoone’) yesterday. It is a comedy-drama movie directed by Nicholas Kharkongor. The story is about a group from the north-eastern states of India who are planning to have a wedding organized at a room in Delhi. But everything doesn’t go as expected!

The only cast I know is Sayani Gupta. All the other cast members were new to me. In one sentence, this movie can be described as’ Simple yet powerful.’ The director has done a great job by showing the discrimination faced by this community in urban cities like Delhi. The severity of this situation is that most people from this community live only in places like Munirka, Delhi, which are dominated by their people.

People resist change. And that’s the reason why we cannot accept these people as one of our own. With their small eyes and different body type, we find it difficult to call them ‘Indian.’ Such a stupid reason to discriminate, right? I can never understand ‘What’s the relation between body-type and nationality?’

The second stupid thing we all are doing is we are comparing them with Chinese people. And therefore the names,’Chinka/Chinki’, ‘Desi-Chinese’ etc. This may sound trivial to us, but it can have a severe psychological effect on someone.

For example, just try calling yourself ‘Desi-Pakistani,’ and you will realize what I’m trying to say.

Coming back to the movie, it was a good watch. A topic that needs to be discussed. You should watch it this weekend if you haven’t. It is streaming on Netflix now.
