Capernaum just replaced my favorite movie

I really don’t know where to start. There’s so much in my head right now. I think watching ‘Capernaum‘ was the best thing I did during this lockdown.

I follow a lot of Movie Review pages/groups on Facebook. I remember I saw a post related to Capernaum in one of those review groups. The title of the post was something like this ‘Forget Parasite, Watch this’. To be honest, I was offended. I really couldn’t believe something could be compared to Parasite. This movie, this masterpiece changed my mind!

Capernaum is the story of a 12-year-old boy(Zain) who accuses his parents of child neglect. The movie is directed by Nadine Labaki and produced by Khaled Mouzanar & Michel Merkt. I have never seen any film of this cast but now I surely will. Personally, I fell in love with every character, but Zain Al Rafeea(Zain) just nailed it. I cannot think of a better actor at this age.

I don’t know what to praise in this movie. I mean from plot to acting to background music, everything was just perfect. Kudos to the writers for such a gripping story. I started it and just got lost in it. I mean it’s very well connected and has a lot of emotions in it. From being a brother to a mother, Zain showed us all.

I loved this movie, and I cannot think it has anything that can be pointed out. It has 8.4 on IMDB, 90% on Rotten Tomatoes & 4.9 stars in google reviews. Although 8.4 is not bad, I think it deserves at least a 9.0 rating in IMDB. I am giving all these stats just because I want you to watch this now if you haven’t. This should be the next movie you watch on Netflix!

For more than 2 years, ‘Schindler’s List’ was my favourite movie. But today, this movie has replaced it for good. I am not saying Schindler’s List is in any way bad, it’s just I can’t put it at number 1 after watching this. Also, this movie only reinforced my idea of ‘How beautiful cinema can be?’ I have realized that there is so much to the cinema. Like I had never imagined a Lebanese movie could have such a profound impact on me.

I have seen many movies, but today I feel like I haven’t watched anything. That’s the thing about cinema, you think you have seen the best, but you haven’t. I would not rate this movie, because I don’t think 10 out of 10 or 5 stars could justify it.

I really wish I could undo watching it so that I can watch it again. This is one of the movies, you will talk, share, and recommend yourself. And I can bet on it!

If you have watched it, do share your thoughts.
