Batla House is a 2019 Bollywood Action-Thriller movie. It was directed by Nikhil Advani and was released on Indian Independence Day, i.e., 15 August 2019. The total runtime of the film is 145 minutes. ‘Batla House’ was a commercial success earning Rs 113.38 crore at the box office against its budget of Rs 47 Crore.
The movie stars John Abraham as DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and Mrunal Thakur as Nandita Kumari. The screen-time is dominated by John as he is the lead character of the story. Mrunal Thakur has done some serious acting too. Overall, an excellent performance by the leads and sub-artists too!
The story is based on ‘Operation Batla House’ done by the special cell of Delhi Police on 19 September 2008. Delhi Police(special cell)conducted this operation under which 2 of the suspects were killed, 2 were arrested & one of them was able to escape. You can read more about this here. So, the movie ‘Batla House’ tells the story of Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, an officer of the special cell, who is struggling to catch the fugitive and is trying to prove that the encounter wasn’t a fake one. This incident garnered a lot of media attention & fake news, creating public hatred against Delhi Police and their inability to catch the real terrorists and killing innocent students instead.
Nikhil Advani chose the right man for this role. John has been doing some serious acting in the past few movies, and honestly, this is the type of movie he should do. The story is good enough, and the director was successful in portraying the story. Also, Kudos to the writer Ritesh Shah and editor Maahir Zaveri, their contribution to the movie cannot be ignored.
I feel ‘Batla House’ is a good one-time watch. The direction is right, and as the story is based on real-life incidences, it is informative too. But, the movie felt more like a drama than a thriller, but the official genre as given on Wikipedia is Action-Thriller!
John had done a decent job in this movie. Personally, I loved the courtroom scene in the end. It was intense and maybe the best part of the film.
Although at some points it felt like the movie is being stretched unnecessarily and this was one of the major turnoffs of the movie. And one of the good points is there are only 3 songs in this movie. This is a plus point because Bollywood usually has 5 songs in a film even if it’s a THRILLER! Little improvement there, still a long way to go.
‘Batla House’ is being called ‘The Best Movie Of John Abraham’ by critics. I partially agree with it! It was good, but he can still improve. I would rate this movie a 7 out of 10 and would recommend it to people who are interested in some action and drama.
