Predestination is a 2014 Australian Science-Fiction-Thriller movie. The director of the movie is The Spierig Brothers. Predestination was released on 28 August 2014. The total runtime of the movie is 97 minutes, and it is enough! It is a critically acclaimed movie with a total box office collection of $5.3 Million.
The movie has 3 lead stars:-
- Ethan Hawke as Agent Doe
- Sarah Snook as Jane/John
- Noah Taylor as Mr. Robertson
All of the actors have acted very well. But, I loved Sarah Snook above all. Ethan Hawke did well too, but Sarah was outstanding at times. She won 2 awards for her acting:- AACTA Award for ‘Best Actress’ & FCCA Award for ‘Best Actress.’
I cannot even say this movie starts with this & this because it is based on Predestination Paradox. Predestination Paradox is a phenomenon in which a person traveling back in time becomes a part of past events and may even have caused the first event for which the person is going back in time in the first place. In simple words, he/she cannot change the past and can only become a part of it. The time-traveler is stuck in a loop, which he cannot break.
Starting/Ending/Middle scene- a man trying to disarm a bomb that eventually blows in his face. Then someone helps him get his time-travel kit, and the next scene is of a hospital in the future. In the hospital where he is undergoing facial reconstruction, it is revealed that he was trying to stop a criminal by the name of ‘Fizzle-Bomber”. After his recovery, he is given a final assignment!
I would like to give a salute to the writer of this story. This movie is based on the short story ‘All You Zombies’ by Robert A. Heinlein. Great work by him, and kudos to the director for converting this short story into a movie. Also, I would like to appreciate Matt Villa for the fantastic editing work he has done for Predestination. Matt Villa won AACTA Award & FCCA Award for ‘Best Editing,’ and he truly deserves it!
The most important thing to remember while watching ‘Predestination’ is this movie has no starting point and no endpoint! WTF? This is because of the Predestination Paradox; the whole film is like a circle with no starting points and no parameter. I had to literally see an explanation video of this movie- TWICE! I understood some of the points but not all.
The first 40 minutes is just conversation, and one can find it challenging to watch. Although the movie-makers were successful in creating some mystery which keeps you hooked. Before the interval, the movie is just dominated by Sarah, especially the conversation with Ethan! I also liked how the story unfolds; it’s like a brand new chapter every 10 minutes in the latter half of the movie.
Although there are some loopholes in the plot, which I am still discussing in movie forums and whenever I find any movie geek like me. But overall, it is one hell of a movie, and it can easily F*CK your mind. After watching it, you would definitely ask questions about it and demand some answers. Especially the ending!
One of the best time-travel flicks, and it would surely be in many critics’ list of ‘Mind-Boggling Movies.’ I think I have given you enough reasons to watch this movie! Coming to the ratings, I would rate this movie an 8 out of 10.
So, that’s the movie for today.
